Russia’s Severstal to spend 2 bln rbl on safety of Vorkuta mines

MOSCOW, Mar 28 (PRIME) -- Russian steelmaker Severstal plans to spend 2 billion rubles to increase safety of operations at its Vorkuta mines in the Komi Republic in 2016, Deputy CEO Alexander Yegorov told reporters late on March 25.

“We are working on increasing the level of work safety and technical security at mines of Vorkutaugol. This year almost 2 billion rubles will be spent on this. Over the last three years, 3.7 billion rubles were spent on these goals,” he said.

In late February, the Severnaya mine operated by Severstal’s unit Vorkutaugol was hit by a series of explosions killing 36 people.
